If the auto industry videos you were shown in high school come to mind, you are not alone. The primary consumer and investor of robots in North America, the automotive industry, decreased robot ordering from 41 percent in 2005 to 21 percent in 2014. When was the last time you thought about robotics being used in manufacturing?
Between 2005 and 2008, the average annual number of robots sold was about 115,000 units. This is never more so true than the hilarious current commercial video series by General Electric about a young man recently out of college who says he got a job at GE, a long time American manufacturing company, as a software developer.
In 2005, the Manufacturing Institute created and launched the Dream It. They also put out this fantastic video about Millennials' thoughts on the image of manufacturing. . As a result, the need for more workers in manufacturing will grow, but how will manufacturers attract these new individuals?
