Over the last three decades, emissions from new trucks have been reduced by more than 98 percent. In fact, it would take 60 of today’s trucks to generate the same level of emissions from a single truck in 1988. Despite these impressive improvements, many trucking businesses continue to seek methods to achieve sustainability goals in a viable, measurable way.
Companies will have different reasons for pursuing sustainability initiatives. They may include contributing to a healthier planet, complying with increasingly stringent regulations, or simple cost savings. Setting goals to improve carbon footprints, optimizing the lifespan of current assets, establishing emissions benchmarks, and considering alternative fuel vehicles are a few approaches trucking operations can pursue.
